CREAMY OATMEAL SOAP
Recipe Instructions
Method
1. Use your spice grinder or food processor to grind the oatmeal to the texture you desire without leaving any large lumps.
2. Measure out the powdered goat’s milk and stir well to remove lumps. Add the powder to half of the water (6.75 oz) to create the base for the soap’s bottom layer.
3. With your goggles and gloves on, weigh out the lye and mix it with the remaining water. Set the solution to one side.
4. Next, measure out the olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, almond oil and castor oil and melt together in your pot until they reach the same temperature as the lye solution (between 90 and 95 degrees F).
5. Pour the lye mixture into to the oils and stir continuously, or use a stick blender and bring the mixture to very light trace. At this point, add any essential oil you’ve chosen and mix for a short while longer.
6. Separate the oil and lye mixture into two equal batches, adding the goat’s milk solution to one batch and mixing well. Pour the batch into the mold.
7. Into the other batch, add the ground oatmeal, stir well and pour into the mold on top of the goat’s milk bottom layer.
8. Sprinkle the handful of oats on top of the soap and pad down slightly with a rubber spatula. Cover the soap with the cardboard lid and blanket.
9. About 18 hours later, remove the blanket and lid, leaving the soap to stand for a few hours longer.
10. When completely set, the soaps should be removed from the mold and turned out on to a drying rack. You can either cut them into bars at this point, or leave them as loaves.
11. Allow the soaps to cure for between four and six weeks – this will create extra-gentle, long-lasting bars.
