Recipe Instructions

  1. Melt oils and butters in crockpot
  2. Pour glycerin into Potassium hydroxide crystals and proceed to dissolve. Heat is required until solution is crystal clear
  3. Pour glycerin solution into oils and stick blend till bubbles begin to fly from the soap mix (6 minutes of stick blending) indicating first saponification stage has been reached.
  4. Cover pot and leave for 6 hours or more to get to paste stage where the soap will be firm but a scoop-able sticky paste.
  5. Phenolphthalein test soap and leave to sit for longer if needed

Dilution

  1. 100% paste (500g paste)
  2. 41.3% water which is 0.413 x grams of paste eg 0.413x 500=206.5 grams
  3. 3% stearic acid which is 3/100x500=15 grams
  4. 0.15% polysorbate 80 which is 0.15/100x500=0.75 grams
  5. 1.96% EDTA which is 1.96/100x500=9.8 grams (EDTA is in a 39% solution, 69% water:39%EDTA)
  6. Put ingredients in a canning jar type situation with the liquid portion being preheated and allow to heat in the water bath.
  7. When soap is amber with some undissolved soft paste, use the stick blender to break them up. If undissolved paste is firm then allow soap to cook some more.
  8. Stick blending causes soap to turn opaque, let it sit undisturbed till it clears out.
  9. If soap still has foam after 12 hours check for undissolved paste, add a small amount of warm water and let it cool down.
  10. Over the space of 24 hours, soap will transform into the finished opaque creaminess.
