(5 lbs)-Aloe water soap recipe for brightening, moisturizing, and toning
Recipe Instructions
17.21 oz Chilled Aloe Vera Liquid or Distilled Water
Additives (at trace)
- 1 tablespoon Turmeric Powder (for brightening)
- 2 teaspoons Sodium Lactate (helps harden soap)
- 1 oz Sweet Orange Essential Oil (for brightening, toning, and scent)
- 0.5 oz Frankincense Essential Oil (for toning, anti-aging)
- 0.5 oz Lavender Essential Oil (for soothing, brightening, anti-aging)
Equipment
- Safety goggles & gloves
- Digital kitchen scale
- Heat-resistant containers/pitchers
- Stick blender
- Silicone molds
- Thermometer
Instructions
- Safety First: Put on your safety goggles and gloves. Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Prepare the Lye Solution: Slowly add the lye to the chilled aloe vera liquid/distilled water. Stir gently until completely dissolved. The solution will heat up, so allow it to cool down to 100°F (38°C).
- Melt the Solid Oils: In a separate container, melt the coconut oil and shea butter until fully liquid.
- Combine Oils: Add the olive oil, rice bran oil, and castor oil to the melted solid oils and stir. Allow the oil mixture to cool to 100°F (38°C).
- Mix Lye and Oils: Once both the lye solution and the oil mixture are at 100°F (38°C), slowly pour the lye solution into the oils while continuously stirring with the stick blender.
- Bring to Trace: Continue blending until the mixture reaches a thin to medium trace (a pudding-like consistency). This might take a few minutes.
- Additives: Add the turmeric powder, sodium lactate, sweet orange essential oil, frankincense essential oil, and lavender essential oil to the traced soap mixture. Blend well to ensure even distribution.
- Pour into Molds: Carefully pour the soap mixture into your silicone molds. Tap the molds gently to release any air bubbles.
- Insulate and Cure: Cover the molds and insulate them with a towel to allow the saponification process to complete. After 24-48 hours, the soap should be firm enough to remove from the molds.
- Cure Time: Place the unmolded soap bars in a cool, dry place on a rack for 4-6 weeks to allow them to harden further and finish the curing process.
Notes
- Always recalculate lye and water based on the specific oils you choose, as different oils require varying amounts of lye for saponification.
- For skin brightening, you could explore other natural ingredients like sandalwood powder or lemon peel powder as well.
- Remember, lemon essential oil is photosensitive, meaning it can increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun. Use caution if planning to use this soap before sun exposure.
- This recipe provides a starting point. Feel free to adjust the proportions of oils and essential oils to create a soap that suits your specific skin needs and preferences.
