Green Pastures (tallow) formally mom's cucumber melon
Recipe Instructions
1. Prepare your work area by putting on safety gear such as gloves and goggles. Make sure your workspace is well-ventilated.
2. In a well-ventilated area, carefully mix the lye into the water. Stir until the lye is completely dissolved. Set aside to cool.
3. In a heat-safe container, melt the tallow, coconut oil, and olive oil together over low heat.
4. Once the oils are melted, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
5. Slowly pour the lye water into the oils, stirring constantly.
6. Use a stick blender to mix the ingredients until they reach trace. Trace is when the mixture thickens and leaves a trail when drizzled back onto itself.
7. If desired, add essential oils for fragrance. Stir well.
8. Pour the soap mixture into molds and cover with a towel to insulate.
9. Allow the soap to cure for 4-6 weeks before using.
Notes:
1 tsp of clay per lb. of Soap (454g-16oz.)
If a swirl is desired...
Make the soap recipe without any soap colorants. When the soap batter has emulsified (the lightest possible trace), separate the soap batter into different containers and add clay to each. You do this by first mixing the clay with three times its amount in distilled water by volume.
