Recipe Instructions

Superfat at 6% of 989g of oils is 59g.

For hot process: reserve 59g of olive oil for superfatting after saponification.

930g + 59g = 989g

oils + sfat = total

Hot process:

  • Melt oils over double boiler and try to keep under 100F
  • Reserve superfat oil, and mix with EO and FO
  • set aside in a small mason jar with lid
  • Mix lye & water in separate container.
  • Allow to cool
  • At 130/140F incorporate lye water and oils together.
  • Emulsify with stick blender and bring to trace.
  • With the double boiler at a low setting: allow the emulsified mixture to gel and saponify without going past 212F
  • past 212F and it will erupt/boil
  • this will take time, about an hour or more.
  • Once "vaseline" stage is reached: add sodium lactate and mix (the soap should loosen up a bit)
  • Add the reserved EO-FO/olive oil mixture and mix in well to distribute
  • Transfer to a loaf mold using a silicone spatula
  • Allow to cool completely before cutting
