Recipe Instructions

Dilution Phase:Distilled Water: 6,010.2 g (212 oz) – adjust as needed for desired thickness

Optional Additives:Essential Oil: 2.5-5 oz (e.g., lavender or chamomile)

Yield:

  • Finished Soap: 11,022.46 g (388.81 oz), enough for 24 bottles of 16 oz each, with ~4.81 oz left over.

Process:

  1. Safety: Wear gloves, goggles, and long sleeves.
  2. Lye Solution: Dissolve 604.27 g KOH in 1,409.97 g distilled water. Stir until clear; let cool to 100-120°F (38-49°C).
  3. Melt Oils: Combine the oils in your 8-quart crock pot and heat on low until fully melted (120-140°F / 49-60°C).
  4. Blend: Pour the lye solution into the oils; blend to light trace (5-15 minutes).
  5. Cook: Cook on low, stirring occasionally, until it turns into a thick, translucent paste (1-3 hours). Test for doneness (dissolve a small amount in hot water—it should be clear or slightly pearlescent).
  6. Dilute: Transfer the paste to your 20-quart stainless steel pot. Add 6,010.2 g of hot distilled water, stirring until dissolved (12-24 hours). Adjust with more water if needed.
  7. Additives (Body Wash Customization) After dilution and once the soap is below 180°F (82°C), stir in:
  • Essential Oil: 70–140g (2.5–5 oz), depending on desired strength. 1% = 110g
  • Vegetable Glycerin: 440g (4%) – for hydration and slip.
  • Vitamin E: 30–33g (0.3%) – antioxidant and skin softening.
  • (Optional): Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (ROE): 6–8g – further protects oils from oxidation.
  1. Ensure the soap is well-mixed and cooled to below 120°F (49°C) before bottling to protect Vitamin E integrity.
  2. Test: Check pH (aim for 9-10). Strain if cloudy.
  3. Bottle: Pour into 24 bottles of 16 oz each (384 oz total), with ~4.81 oz left over.
