Recipe Instructions

I started out with an olive-oil heavy recipe. Ingredients follow:

Extra Virgin Olive oil at 15.75 ounces – 45%

5.25 oz apricot kernel oil – 15%

2.8 oz of castor oil – 8%

2.45 oz Cocoa butter – 7%

8.75 oz Coconut Oil – 25%

There were problems with reaching trace. It took forever, and then arrived at a grainy texture. Ouch.

Oh no…this took forever to trace and didn’t.

Another opportunity to experiment!

I turned on the slow cooker and went in to think.

I came out and added 3 ounces of Palm Oil, and 1.5 oz of high quality Tamanu oil.

My feeling is that the coconut oil from sprouts was not pure, coconut oil.

It said organic but it did not say 100% coconut oil. I only get my oil from sprouts if I have a last minute inspiration to make soap, and my quality oils haven’t arrived yet.

I also added one teaspoon of yogurt. Then I stopped. Or rather started to blend this new mixture with my stick blender and all was well within 5 minutes.

Maybe I experiment, get into a jam, and then like the feeling of rescuing my soap? God knows why I experiment so much. Anyhow, long story short, the olive oil heavy recipe was not good until I added a bit of palm (and tamanu oil on a whim).

My kitchen looks like a war zone, although, at the end I couldn’t do the artsy stuff I wanted to, because it was a thick pudding after the band aids were applied.
