Recipe Instructions

*Please note* the water and lye I used in this particular recipe are as follows and not what this saved recipe says. I did this because I combined a few recipes for this one and I'm new to this site and unsure how to edit. I'll do my best to describe exactly what I did. Feel free to ask questions or pass out some tips!

Distilled water - 15 oz.

Lye 100% Purity NaOH - 7.2 oz.

Items needed

Large crock pot

Whisk or stick blender - do yourself a favor and find a stick or emulsion blender if you can. Mine broke so I used a whisk.

Pyrex or heat proof bowls

Digital thermometer

Digital kitchen scale

Instructions

Turn your crock pot on low

Place a medium heat proof bowl or Pyrex on your kitchen scale and zero out the weight. Measure out 15 oz. of distilled water. Set aside.

Place another glass bowl on the scale and zero out the weight. Measure 7.2 your 100% Purity NaOH.

Do this next step outside or in an extremely well ventilated area away from kids, pets, etc. because the reaction can be very harmful if your not careful.

Slowly pour the Lye into the water (not the other way around) while gently stirring until the solution is clear again. Don't splash it around. It's going to steam and heat up pretty fast. Set in a safe place to cool.

Using the kitchen scale and zeroing out the weight in between each oil, combine all oils. Add these to the crock pot to melt together.

I let my Lye solution cool to about 110°. Some say this is still too high. But this is my first time making it and I went with it.

Slowly pour Lye into the oils while stirring. It will begin to turn to a milky color, that's good. Keep stirring for 10-15 minutes until it reaches trace. Basically a runny cake batter.

Cook on low for 45 minutes to an hour stirring every 15 minutes.

After an hour or so I do the "zap" test. I put a little bit on my finger tip and touch my tongue. If I get a little zap feeling it's not ready. If it tastes like soap with no zap, its ready for the next step. I was zapped after an hour so I just cooked it for another 15 minutes

You can add it to the mold now. I did the following.

Added the scent and divided the batch in two. One colored with green tea matcha and the other with turmeric. Then added both to my molds. I used toothpicks to swirl the two together. Again this is optional.

Leave in the molds for 24-48 hours. As long as they're firm they can be removed. I'm letting mine air dry for approx. 2-4 weeks.

Again, this is my first time making "real" soap. I'll update everything when it's done so you know if this is crap or not. Let me know what you think. Good luck!
