Recipe Instructions
- Tallow (rendered): 500g (Hardness, creamy lather)
- Coconut Oil: 200g (Cleansing, bubbly lather)
- Olive Oil: 150g (Gentle, moisturizing)
- Castor Oil: 50g (Boosts lather)
- Pine Tar: 100g (Soothing, anti-inflammatory)
- Distilled Water: 250g
- Lye (Sodium Hydroxide): 100g (calculated for 5% superfat)
Optional Essential Oils (Earthy and Foresty):
- Cedarwood: 10g
- Tea Tree: 5g (adds antibacterial properties)
🧪 Method:
- Safety First: Gloves, goggles, and ventilation!
- Lye Solution: Slowly add lye to distilled water (never the other way around!) and let it cool to about 40°C.
- Melt Oils: Melt tallow and coconut oil. Add olive and castor oils. Let cool to 40°C.
- Combine: Blend lye into oils with a stick blender until light trace.
- Add Pine Tar: Stir in gently (it will accelerate trace, so move fast!)
- Pour: Quickly pour into molds.
- Cure: Cut after 24-48 hours and cure for 4-6 weeks.
