LYE + WATER (6% Superfat)

These numbers give you the slowest moving batter possible while still curing into a firm bar.

  • Lye (NaOH): 4.60 oz
  • Water: 11.50 oz
  • Full Water Ratio: 2.5–2.7:1 (no discount)

This keeps it fluid and workable, especially with charcoal.

CHARCOAL ADDITION

For 32 oz oils:

  • Activated Charcoal: 2 tsp (max for slow trace, deep color)
  • Premix into 1–2 tbsp of your oils
  • Add at emulsion, not trace

FRAGRANCE

Library from CandleScience is very well behaved.

Use:

  • 0.8–1 oz per pound of oils
  • For 32 oz oils → 1.6–2 oz fragrance

Add right after emulsion for the most fluid pour.

PROCESS NOTES (For Slow Trace)

Follow these and your batter will act like it’s on vacation:

  1. Soap cool: 80–85°F
  2. Stick blend ONLY to emulsion
  3. Add fragrance
  4. Add charcoal slurry
  5. Hand-stir to avoid thickening
  6. Pour immediately

This formula is designed to stay slow even when charcoal tries to speed-run the process.
